Christmas time is not my favorite time of year, but the lights are really nice. So I don’t get why we have lights only at Christmas time, and why everyone is more cheerful during that time too. Why can’t we have songs and lights for other holidays, I’m sure then people would be happy all year round. I just watched the movie Oranges, and one of the characters fits this description perfectly. The mom loved Christmas so much and every year she would become obsessed with her caroling group, Christmas lights, and become the Christmas spirit. The husband absolutely hated it. After their divorce, she only played Christmas music to cheer her up, but basically when Christmas rolls around she is done with the Christmas spirit, and now has a new spirit, one where she wants to help children in third-world countries. And she did. I didn’t know that was what they were getting at the whole movie, that the mom liked spreading the spirit, I thought she just wanted the lights and music. Oranges otherwise was a pretty good movie, Alia Shawkat is the narrator, and I adore her. She has some questionable interviews on YouTube, where she is the interviewer, but I think she’s great and I loved her in the one Broad City episode. So when I really think, Christmas is a generous season, and that must be what is making everybody so happy, the generosity. So why don’t we just keep that spirit all year around? Why can’t we always give gifts and help children without jackets?
